Amethyst

Ranging from violet to deep purple, amethyst was dedicated to the Greek god Dionysus and worn as an amulet against excess. Also revered by the Church as the "stone of bishops", it was considered a sacred gemstone for centuries – and was as highly prized as ruby or sapphire.
